Flags
Submitted by obscure_one on August 26, 2008 - 18:24.Obscure takes another crack at songwriting... This is really rough and I wrote it in about a half-hour. It's extremely slow and reliant on the guitar part. More like a spoken poem than a song, but I'm going to call it a song anyway. Any suggestions would be immensely welcome. I'm not sure about a podcast as my source of quality vocals/recording has just left for college today...
I wave a flag for
your safe arrival
home
and I wake up everyone
with my screaming
thirst
and I can't find a way
to say all these
things I
think when I'm alone.
'Cause when I'm without you
I
can't find my own way
home
my back aches for your soft
form
and I can't let you go.
And as the space grows
I
want you here
I miss how you smell
miss how you feel
miss how you
breathe...
I grow so weary of
waiting another week
so I
wave a flag for your
safe arrival
here
with me...

Just Wondering (Geist song 3)
Submitted by Geist on August 19, 2008 - 23:24.(Numero tres on my march down musical lane. Sorry about the sucktacular voice. I had just finished playing a varsity soccer game for ninety minutes straight when I recorded it. Very rough, though. I want to add bass and maybe guitar if my brother ever gets around to teaching me minor chords. :p
Enjoy.
-Geist)
Chorus
Have you ever seen a man
lose all comprehension of life?
Have you ever seen his gaze
dart over towards the knife?
Have you ever seen his eyes
see infinity spread before you,
Have you ever seen a man
die?
Have you ever blocked the screams
as they echo through the night?
Have you ever heard the mute,
seen the blind and wronged the right?
Have you ever helped me up?
When was the last time you did that?
What’s the point anymore?
You made up for things I lacked.
Chorus
Will you do me one last thing?
Just wondering if you could.
Tell the people I knew no god
and leave my body out in the woods.

Endgame! (Geist song 2)
Submitted by Geist on August 17, 2008 - 22:33.(Took me a while to sort out life and a little tweaking of the lyrics, but here it is.
I wanted to try speaking in between singing, akin to the Nine Inch Nails song "Zero-Sum", which details the end of the world from the perspective of two lovers sitting outside a church. Quite moving.
Percussion/ambient sounds, bass guitar, guitar, piano, and vocals by Geist.
Enjoy.)
Keep waiting, maybe the sirens will stop.
This one can’t be real.
Sit in the shelter and let the rumbles rock you to sleep.
Wake up before the others, see if you can feel.
Watch the sky light up behind the radiation.
Hear that microwave’s buzz as the world fries.
Let the burnt skin peel off like paper machè.
Now wonder why you believed the lies.
This is the endgame, family and friends.
This is the end result.
This is the past and future of this human race.
This is the final expression of a collective guilt.
Keep walking, it just keeps getting better.

Fine (Geist song)
Submitted by Geist on August 6, 2008 - 17:18.So I've been working on a bigger song with a motherload of new programs I've come across on the internet, but since it's taking longer than I imagined, I will give you all this bit as compensation.
Piano, percussion, vocals: Geist with usage of Audacity and Hammerhead programs
Oh, and, yes, it's actually a happy song.
Yay.
Enjoy.
-Geist
Lyrics:
It’s those times when so little,
just a little means so much,
when a look from you,
means as much as,
such and such,
When the world is bright and,
you look just right and,
the feeling of stress
ain’t stress no more,
it’s just fine.
Lose your mind,
it’s bored of it’s games
so take the time
to see the day
for all that it can be.
Lose your mind,
it’s tired of it’s games
so take the time
to see the day
for all that it can be.
Yeah.

Never Return
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 22, 2008 - 16:54.(chorus)
We're leavin' for the army never to return,
we'll fight back for our country no matter who we burn,
The terrorists can bomb us but they'll never learn,
so we're leaving for the army never to return,
(Verse)
We wanted to do something meaningful with our lives (with our lives)
And not be stuck inside some stuffy office (stuffy office)
We thought to fight for freedom (fight for freedom)
But freedom rarely ever comes from bloodshed (comes from bloodshed)
(chorus)
We're leavin' for the army never to return,
we'll fight back for our country no matter who we burn,
The terrorists can bomb us but they'll never learn,
so we're leaving for the army never to return,
(verse)
We're always told that death is just a beginning (just a beginning)
But everybody knows it's just the end (just the end)
We thought to fight for freedom (fight for freedom)
But we hardly ever stepped off the plane (into the rain)
(Bridge)

Dried Leaves
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 21, 2008 - 16:37.It's him or me
preemptive strikes
you save the trees
won't save a life
Burn the city
say it's for God
you won't feel pity
it's still for God.
We're all....
Dried leaves!
Crushed under the heel of society.
Robots!
Told what to think by corporations.
And Nature!
Is just an obstruction to progress.
And free thought!
stands in the way of everyone's profit!
(Guitar)
And now we see
the pain and strife
no one agrees
we pay the price
we want freedom
the give us none
we want wisdom
they cut and run
We're all....
Dried leaves!
Crushed under the heel of society.
Robots!
Told what to think by corporations.
And Nature!
Is an obstruction to progress.
And free thought!
stands in the way of everyone's profit!
We'll all die
alone
with no God above
We all sigh
as one
with no one to love
We all cry
and sigh
with no one to blame! (blame could work as a scream)
(guitar gets louder then fades away to complete silence)
We're all....

White Lies
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 19, 2008 - 11:59.I've written quite a few songs over the past year or two, and I'm going to try to dig some of the better ones out of my computer for the next several days and post them up here. Some are older and some are very new, but I'm going to try to put them in chronological order. Very few have been sung louder than a whisper, and none have been recorded, so I might make a podcast of one or two of them at some point. This intro is a bit long, so I'll stop now.
___________
(Verse)
I love this picture,
it's fantastic
The blues and reds,
they just blend, so well
I was just wondering
What is this supposed to be?
Is it a dog or a tree?
(Verse)
Oh, no daddy,
that's my mommy
and all that green, that is
her hair.
But do you still love it?
I drew it just for you.
(Pre-Chorus)
Of course, "we'll put it right up on the fridge!"
(Chorus)
You don't prepare for a "white lie,"
they just sneak up on you.
"I love it!"
"I hate her!"
"I'm [not your friend anymore!]"

Love is Awkward (imagine)
Submitted by imagine on June 25, 2008 - 10:39.Inspired by one of this week's postsecrets... Enjoy.
The Lyrics:
You be the girl with the heart
I can't resist,
and I'll be the boy with the lips
that you love to kiss.
I'll meet you for fun
at the brook where the sun
can't reach us,
we're the only ones.
Chorus:
It's the awkwardness
of falling in love
that we yearn for.
Shaking hands and quivering bones,
we always want more.
Touching lips,
hiding flowers,
getting lost in the rain for hours,
hearts pumping awkwardness
of falling
in love.
I like your sweat and your skin
when it's on my tongue.
It makes me remember
the feeling of being young.
You hold me there,
and I'll messy your hair.
Love is awkward,
but I really don't care.
Chorus
We both know there's
no such thing as perfection,
maybe that's the reason
for our affection.
It's like the surprise
of rain falling in eyes,
'cause it hurts,
but it feels good at the same time.
Bridge:
It's the awkwardness of

Singing Baby (imagine)
Submitted by imagine on June 15, 2008 - 11:32.The lyrics:
Baby sings her songs so well,
voice like a crying bell.
Sings all day into the night,
she just wants to make the world right.
Chorus:
Singing Baby,
wrapped in your melody again,
dancing with rhythm,
as the verse begins.
Baby likes to open her eyes.
She doesn't ignore the people's lies.
So many crying, the laughing so few.
She sings 'cause she doesn't know what to do.
Chorus
Baby sees the pain in their lives,
so much ugliness that it makes her cry.
Music is her beauty,
if only the people would learn to see.
Baby plays her life away,
sings tomorrow, sings yesterday.
Too late to do anything,
and so much easier to sing.
Chorus
As the verse ends...

Parody of Alcoholic Friends
Submitted by ParisianTwist on June 10, 2008 - 16:47.I'm taking notes,
pretending not to see
the way, you're always out against me,
and the lies, you know your lips have set free
(and, I wish, I'd never let you kiss me)
But they're quite the same old trends
I'll shut my windows now, after showing half the town
my colourful new pair of panties
lace, and silk, are really very fancy
(but, I know, you like a girl named Nancy)
Guess that's why we're just called "friends"
I was sad, I almost rather missed you,
now, I know, that other girlie kissed you
You deserve, this blow that you've had coming
toys that lie are just boyfriends.

Metaphor
Submitted by Usagi on June 9, 2008 - 21:46.How much of it's a story
and how much of it is real?
How much of it's a metaphor
not what we really feel?
And maybe how the words were written
is not what they're meant to mean
and the hidden sense is buried
where it can't freely be seen.
I know that words have power
but those words can also lie
and I don't know what to say until
I'm sure it's not goodbye.

Holding Back
Submitted by obscure_one on June 1, 2008 - 19:26.This is my first stab at song-writing since I was about fourteen. I'm only trying again because Imagine suggested I try at YVWC. Here are just the lyrics... Don't wait on a podcast. It's unlikely to come.
I saw your face there on
the corner.
It was in place of
my mouth on yours.
The paper bottles and
letter jackets
told me you'd been driving
back and forth.
I cannot
hold you back.
You cannot
hold me back.
Since when
did you cry?
I went and whispered
your name to millions.
I cannot tell you
what was said.
I broke you open and
climbed inside your hand.
You told me nothing would
ever change your mind.
I cannot
hold you back.
You cannot
hold me back.
Since when
did you cry?
I cannot take you
for granted.
You spoke too plainly
when you called
my
name.
It was so long ago
now I don't even know
what is left here for
you to take.
I cannot
hold you back.
You cannot
hold me back.
Since when
did you cry?
I saw your face there.

Accident
Submitted by imagine on April 16, 2008 - 21:26.Another song... It's posted under "podcasts"
The lyrics:
She's an accident waiting to happen,
Wants to rule the world.
She breaks and she begs and then bullies,
Wait until the disaster curls.
She looks up,
then looks down, but she
doesn't look side to side.
Now, look what she's done.
Look at the mess.
Watch as the cars collide.
He plays games,
and he goes to school, but he
doesn't play by the rules.
Now, look what he's done.
Look at the mess.
He's become ridicule.
He's an accident waiting to happen,
Wants to rule the world.
He breaks and he begs and then bullies,
Wait until the disaster curls.
We plant our bombs.
and we play with guns, but we
aren't helping anyone.
Now, look what we've done.
We've made a mess.
We're dying one by one.
We hurt our friends
and we hurt our souls, what is
this crazy goal?
Do we want to live?
Do we want to live?
We ain't got much time left to live.
We're an accident waiting to happen,
We want to rule the world.
We break and we beg and then bully,
Wait until our disaster curls.

Theme Song???
Submitted by pineapple_babbit on March 24, 2008 - 17:56.Ok, they say that it’s good for you to actually have a theme song for yourself… That and it would be really cool to be humming a song and when someone asked you what you were humming you could say “my theme song…” so…. I am trying to come up with mine… If anyone can think of anything, or comment on what I have thought of, it would help a lot..
Flowers (song lyrics)
Submitted by hoopfairy14 on March 21, 2008 - 10:21.Outside,
Flowers grow, but
Inside,
You’d never know,
We never show,
What’s inside of our hearts,
You’d never know,
That you are a part,
Outside,
Flowers grow, but
Inside,
You’d never know,
You may be the one,
But I’d never say,
To you, “You’re the one,”
And hope its okay,
Outside,
Flowers grow, but
Inside,
You’d never know.
