Youth Voices For Change

Voices for Change is an initiative led by a core group of youths and YWP that seeks to help young people of Muslim faith and youths of color gain the skills, confidence and opportunity to express themselves and be heard. Funded, in large part, by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, and by the Rowland Foundation and Physician's Computer Company, this program is a long-term effort by YWP to build youth leadership, collaborations and audiences for youths to advocate social justice and change. Among the programs ongoing and planned:

  • Workshops and challenges on in all genres of writing, performance poetry and digital media (see some of the work by clicking the #V4C hashtag)
  • Workshops, courses and residencies for youths in storytelling, poetry and performance poetry
  • Multiple events -- including Monthly open-mics and performances -- in multiple venues to showcase young people's voices and art, to share Muslim culture and to raise awareness of the individuality of young people
  • Formal writing courses with Vermont Adult Learning
  • Partnerships with groups in Vermont, the U.S. and around the world
  • An appearance, workshop and performance of a Muslim artist in Spring 2018
  • A multi-cultural conference in July 2018 that will feature workshops, discussions in partnership with Spectrum's MultiCultural Youth Center
