Family Farm

“Are we there yet?” I asked, trying not to sound whiny.
“Yes, hon. We’re almost there. Oh! I'm so excited! I haven't been here in forever!” My mother replied, enthusiasm clear in her voice, “You know the story of this old house, yeah? Or do you want us to tell it to you again?”
“No. Please don’t. We’ve only heard it about three hundred times.” We said.

Quarry Queens

We’re running up the hill, shrieking with laughter, going to our safe place, our haven. This peaceful, dangerous place leaving us breathless every time. The beautiful, jagged redstone, covered in chives and red clovers. We check to make sure that our names are still written on the wall, ensuring our rule over this mysterious place. The trees and plants are our people. The loud geese flying south, the golden sun sinking down, and the uneven rock jutting out are all part of what we love about this place. Sometimes, we stay there for hours. We climb up the precarious ledges to the tippy top of the quarry, looking down on our empire. We stand, side by side, feeling the wind in our hair. We are at bliss, feeling like we own the world.

Edmunds Ghost Story

The stairs gently creaked beneath her feet, as she slowly ascended up. The muffled hum of voices coming through the floor wasn't enough to distract her from the eerie feeling emanating from the room. As she stepped cautiously onto the wooden floor, the air had a chilling stillness, making her shiver. It was then that she realized, this was a bad idea. Nonetheless, she boldly continued on, ignoring the doubt seeping into the back of her mind.
She felt a pair of eyes, burning a hole in her back. She whipped around, searching frantically for one of her friends, hoping they were just playing a prank on her.

To The Best Sister in the World

You can spot her in a crowd
No matter how large.
Her shock blonde curly hair,
Bouncing and blowing in the wind.

She's an avid runner,
running nonstop,
Which makes her happy
all the time.

She rarely complains,
except when it's about homework.
She always has a helpful tip
or idea about something.

She has a big heart,
and always encourages you
to do what you want
not what others want.

She is grateful for everything,
getting excited over the smallest things,
and being extremely thankful
for whatever it is.

When she laughs,
her nose crinkles at the top,
and she laughs so hard,
that it's silent

My sister,
Emma,
is more
than I could ask for.

Why Don’t You Care?

Climate change is real.
How are we letting this happen?
I try so hard,
But we all need to make an effort to turn our direction around.

I am a kid, yes
But I live in the generation where our world is on the path to destruction.
I am the one who has to live here,
In this dying world.

For any adults with kids out there,
Don’t you want your child to be able to live life to its fullest?
I know I would.
Even if you don't have children, this matters for the whole human race.

So why are you acting as if it’s not there?
What good is that doing you?
If there were a meteor hurtling at the earth, that will destroy it sometime in the future,
Would you not care?

You may be asking, what is similar between a meteor, and climate change?
Well, I tell you.
They would both ruin the earth someday.
So why can’t you embrace the fact, and help do something about it?

Home

I gaze up at the hot sun, scorching my face.
I glance down at the pond beneath me, only briefly.
I look down the lane towards my home.
The place I have lived my whole life.

The down the lane the other way, towards my friends house,
And finally, I look straight down.
It’s almost as if I can see the fog clouding the earth,
Showing the path home.

I feel safe up here, away from the troubles of the world.
I don’t want to leave.
If I climb back down the tree, I will be pulled into the inevitable.
Moving.

We’re moving.
All the way across the country.
For my mom’s work.
I have to drop everything and run, for something that doesn’t involve me.

I slowly climb down the tree, delaying as long as possible.
I make my way down the path, through the fog
Until I get home,
Because that’s what it will always be to me. Nowhere else.

Indecision

Indecision is a forest
Never knowing
Which way
To let the wind take it

The leaves
Rustling
In every direction
Not making a decision

Roots
Extending
Mindlessly
Underground

Paths
Leading to nowhere
Having nowhere
To go

Creatures
Climb all over
Up trees
Down trees

Not deciding
Always running
Working
Finally sleeping

Branches
Hanging low
Reaching out
But not wanting to be touched

Having to make a choice
But not ready to-
Wanting to let go
A little longer

Can't decide
Which way
To let themselves
go

Forever Young

If I could stay young
Forever
I would
If I could

I would play outside
Enjoy the air
Watch the world evolve
While staying young

I would watch movies
And eat popcorn,
And hang with friends
Hours on end

Watch the world
Go by
Grow
Change

Read books
Listen to music
Ride my bike
Smile

Help
change the world
Step by step
Offering my time

Visit family and friends
Knowing my time
As a kid
Will be forever

Growing smarter
And wiser
Everyday
But still being a kid
