Shape-shifter

“Everyday is a new beginning,” they say.
Well, for me it truly is.
No two days have been alike,
throughout my life.

Yesterday I was a bird in the Amazon.
Flying high above the beautiful trees.
Last month I was a lion,
hunting herds of animals.
Today I am a cow,
grazing the fields of Vermont.

I have no control over what creature I will be.
The universe decides for me.
There is beauty and evil in this.
Some days I feel like my life is not mine.
Yet some I am ecstatic for a new adventure.

Some days I wish I could stay the same,
And some I am thankful for the change.
Having no control over who I want to be,
is hard…

Yet I love the challenge of adjusting to new environments,
And gaining a different view of life every single day.

This is me

She stands as tall as the pine trees,
with long legs and flowing hair.
She is young with an infinite amount of potential.
She is a girl whose dreams will become reality.

She is a hard worker,
who rarely gives up.
She involves herself in a multitude of activities.
She is a girl with little free time.

She has a bright smile.
She loves to laugh,
and crack jokes.
She is a girl who knows the little moments are the finest.

She is from a big family.
Who appreciates everything they sacrifice.
She loves them a lot.
She is a family girl.

Although she seems happy,
She can also be down.
Yet, attempts to see the positive in all.
She is human.

She has big brown eyes,
That have a spark in them.
She is proud of who she has become.
She is me.

Risk

As an eighth grader, a wonderful woman reached out to me, and said she did not have enough students for her upcoming humanitarian trip. I was ecstatic that she would reach out to me, and of course, I was ALL on board. When I was ten years old, my older sisters and dad went to Haiti on a similar trip. I wanted to do exactly what they did, as soon as I could. Immediately after I got the yes from my parents, I started fundraising. I knew that the Haiti trip changed my sisters' lives, and I couldn't wait to experience it for myself.

Say

The first time she saw him, she had no idea how much he would mean to her.

She thought he was just a boy.

Then he gave her that look.

And she heard his voice.

Looked into those eyes that drew her in closer.

She thought, it’s him.

Time passed.

He turned out to be someone she did not know.

It was hard to go though.

After years of him using her, she finally had enough.

It was so hard.

But she did what was best for her.

She did not want to leave, but had to.

She had so much to say. He had nothing to say, and that's when she knew he never cared.

They had nothing to say to each other anymore..

Where I am From

One thing I know for sure is that I am from Bradford, Vermont.

I am from the stone house with the big red barn.

From the little play house and big tree in the backyard.

I am from the early morning walks on the beaches in Maine.

From Nana’s corn chowder and Boston cream cakes.

I am from hugs, kisses and lots of “I love you’s”.

From my grandparents who live just around the corner,

From my twin brother who is my best friend.

And from my twin sisters who are the best role models anyone could ask for.

From my dad who protected our country as well as me, my siblings and my mom.

I am from my mom who is the glue to it all.

I am from early mornings and late nights of basketball.

From many hours of homework.

I am from Friday night sleepovers in the living room,

From our dads shirts as pjs, known as “wiggly wobblies”

The "Forest"

The forest is where we will go.

With the flowers,

trees, birds, and bees.

Along the way;

there may be foes.

Flowers will bloom, but petals must fall.

Roots disturb the path.

Mother nature has a curious mind, and can help with regrowth.

Petals must fall for growth to occur.

Although, don't forget to capture all of the sunlight.

For we don't know the last time we will see it’ beauty.

The Last Game

A memorable moment that I have playing my favorite sport (basketball) happened when I was going into eighth grade. My AAU team “RVB” was at the last tournament of the season in Burlington. We had done really well the first day, so we all went back to the rooms to get a good night's rest. We all knew the next day was very important and we were all going to have to work hard and as a team.
