Tomorrow Project Challenges
ICE
There are families in our communities who are afraid to leave their homes because of the crackdown by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Have you or someone you know been impacted? Have you been reading about what is happening across the country? Write about it!
In Winooski, Vermont, for instance, when a 7-year-old boy didn't show up for school after Thanksgiving, school officials called his home and learned that he and his mother had been taken into immigration detention in Texas while traveling to visit family over the break, according to a report by Seven Days.
"This is yet another example of the terror our families face simply by doing things other people take for granted — going to school, shopping for groceries, or just visiting family,” Wilmer Chavarria, the superintendent of Winooski schools, posted on the school's website. Chavarria, a U.S. citizen, was also detained and released by federal agents in July when he returned from a visit to family in Nicaragua.
Write about what you see in your own community, or read about what's happening in other communities. Share your thoughts.
