I Will Stick Out

mediaRecorder_5ce83b25d61eb.ogg
They put me in a system that my people can’t escape
Just because my people don’t blend in, just because of their skin
They say “ make America great again”
It’s tough because they can’t see it through a black lens
They give us commercials to wear the latest trends
When they wear it it’s lit, but when we wear it it’s ghetto
But when a black person gets shot they lay low
They don’t want to think that a person that looks like them would do that
So they lie to everyone and say that we were strapped
They ask us questions about the shooting that are irrelevant
To make us look like the bad guy, well, that’s how the message is sent
Poor white guys are too ignorant to see the apparent
They’re put in a system, too, just with a lighter sentence
So I got a question, why is February the only time I learn about my heredity
While we lie to kids and teach them about good white guys like Santa and the tooth fairy
In classes, I’ve learned about Abe, Washington and the dude that sailed the ocean blue
But they were some of the ones who believed in slavery too
I’m sad to tell all y'all people that all that information is true
They told our people they went to Africa to help us with their new technologies
But then I learn that we were the most advanced logically
My guess is that they burned our books and all our new information
Put us on a boat and sent us to a plantation
It didn’t take my people too long to come to the realization
So they started to steal us, that’s how they made our nation
It’s sad to hear I know that you are tore
But what if I told you that black people fought in every single war
Now all the textbooks say it was whites so I guess we were ignored
But I’m going to tell you the truth, man, we were the core
My people after the war were the ones that ended up poor
I’m sorry but that’s the end for today
They put me in a system to put my people in doubt

They say I’m a needle in a haystack, yea, but I will stick out
