Yellow Butterflies

Pretty yellow butterflies
Flit over the grass,
Wingtips barely missing
Flowers, twigs, amber tree sap.

I gaze into the darkened sky
And feel a certain blue;
the kind that weighs your shoulders down
and reveals brutal truths;

A little yellow butterfly
lands on my fingertip,
the sun shines through the clouds
and then I'm flying up to it—

My laughs rings out a thousand bells
and floats silvery-like through the air;
a million yellow butterflies
Dancing everywhere—

Pretty yellow butterflies
float into the field,
I can't help smiling, though they don't know
the joy they make me feel.

    Without the fantasy or talking animals, there's sort of a modern nursery rhyme-feel to this. Your rhyming scheme is down-to-earth and your tone is wonderfully uplifting for the reader - while your character is lifted also! I especially like the way you contrasted the colors of yellow and blue using the feelings associated with both of them.

    The first stanza was especially vivid for me. I love the snippets of images from the lines "Wingtips barely missing / Flowers, twigs, amber tree sap" The "amber tree sap" is specific enough to paint a picture, but also universal enough that your reader will know what you mean.
