Wrote this about a year ago and just rediscovered it.
Where I’m from
I’m no one
Just taking up space under the dying sun where I’m from
Where I’m from
You buy your fun
I can’t forget the things I’ve done where I‘m from
Every time I woke up I was a little surprised
And I wondered why I kept myself alive
And god knows this place was ready to die
But it was all I’d ever known
And I only ever meant to pass you by
But your home looks so pretty from up in the sky
It’s been a long way and I’m fixing to die
I should’ve thought of that before I left home
But when you looked at me with that empty, burning stare
And you looked right on through my eyes as if I wasn’t there
You took me right on back to the place where I was before
With the stagnant, dirty air
Full of faces I can’t recall anymore
You know I’m not unused to being alone
If you must know it reminds me of home
Where I’m from
What I’ve done
Another piece of the past I can’t outrun where I’m from
Where you’re from
There’s a different sun
How can I make you understand how far I’ve come? This is not where I come from
Pardon my denial but I’d like to believe
That the folks back home still think about me
It’s strange but I feel like I’m finally free
And now I must learn to lie
But surely this freedom will come at a cost
Hate is just as potent and fear is not lost
What I am must remain hidden inside my thoughts
How strange is your foreign sky
Shall I return to those who sent me here
Or shall I stay and learn to live with fear
I should’ve left this place when I still could
Gone back to where I’m from
Been a hero under my sun
I can’t remember why I’ve come
Since you went and trapped me here for good
I don’t understand why I can’t let you go
But thanks to you I will die so far from home
Where I’m from
I’m no one
Just taking up space under the dying sun where I’m from
Where I’m from
You buy your fun
I can’t forget the things I’ve done where I‘m from

I always listen to the music that you post. Your voice is unique, soulful and expressive in a very natural way, and your lyrics are thoughtful and, especially with this song, allow me to get lost in them as I listen. Keep making your music!
