As Kids
We don't worry
Not like grown-ups
As kids
We worry about
The last slice of cake
We worry about
Getting the latest toy
We worry about
Getting home before
The light leaves
And
The dark returns
As kids we worry
About growing up
Not afraid
But Eager
Eager
To live life
The way we want
Eat ice cream
For dinner
Go to bed at
Whatever
No more homework
No more rules
But then
When we do start to grow up
On our path to adulting
We worry about
Our clothes
Our hair
Ourselves
Fit in
Like a puzzle piece
Don't stand out
Don't stand up
Who are you?
Who am I?
Gay. Straight
Girl. Boy. Them
Football player. Math League President
We try so hard
To fit in with the crowd
We try
And we fail
We fail ourselves
But when we fail
We learn
As grown-ups
We've learned
But still learning
As grown-ups
We worry about
Paying the rent on time
We worry about
Putting food on the table
We worry about
keeping our heads
Above water
As grown-ups
How we wish
To be kids
Again

I really like this piece! You did a great job of capturing feelings of childhood, and growing adulthood, when we wish to be younger. I also found your use of capitalization really interesting, especially the word "Eager." I wonder if you could experiment with leaving other words uncapitalized to give even more emphasis?
