Stars

Stars
they said
it was stars overhead
not God not
an Angel
not burning rain-- knell
call--
stars fall
not to the ground but
younger and younger
to the sound
of their hunger
they ate themselves
who are they to hate
themselves
burn brighter burn faster
they said
burn past and inter them six-feet to lie
first die
first
you stare at the sky thirst-
ing for a rain
storm lain
flat on your back
your eyes lack-
ing stars the cold
hollow that was gold
now black.
