One Smile

They sat at the dining room table
The family of four
They all had enough to eat
Yet they wanted more

They had everything they needed
A house, a family, food
But no one was satisfied
Their life was subdued

The family sat together
But silence overcame
Together but unhappy
With only themselves to blame

The daughter rose her gaze
And gave a little smile
And though it was meak
It made the night worthwhile...
