Summertime Secret

There’s an overwhelming feeling,
It’s called a crush,
A surge of dopamine,
Shooting blood to the brain.

It’s only a sign of delayed spring,
A little sliver of light
where
I cannot see.

It’s merely just a symptom of the
Sick teenage mind
And of course
It means nothing more.

I can’t imagine us out for coffee
With nothing else to say
Just staring blankly
Waiting for a better way to spend
A hot summer's day.

I barely know your name
Enough to match it to your face
In a crowd of sparkling eyes
Spotting your gaze
Without a second
To waste.

I think it’s an exaggeration
To even say we are acquainted
You simply caught my eye
A little more than the
Other unfated destiny
In this universe
alone.

I never worked up the courage
To calm down my nerves,
listen to my pounding heart,
To reach,
Pulling the distance closer
to friends.
And farther from
Strangers.
Like we are now.
