Plants

Inspired by "Ode To Tomatoes" by Pablo Neruda

Plants

Full of life

Diverse in type

innumerable

Some small

as grass blades

Brittle and weak

sensitive to

the lightest

step

Some as tall

as

buildings

Untouched by

the strongest

windstorms

Some lime-colored

bright and lively

oozing tropical

aura

Some a deep green

cold as the

winter scene

where they stand

out

as the hardy survivors

of the

seasonal revolution

Some with leaves

flat and

symmetric

dynamic in

design

As beautiful

in spring when they bud

as in autumn

when they fall

Some with thistles

and needles

Sharp deterrents

to the curious touch

From pines

to cacti

Some bear fruits

some vegetables

Bright and sweet

ripe and refreshing

or

Tart and sour

bitter and harsh

Plants are everywhere

every crack and crevice,

they find a way

Migrating in

the stomachs

of animals

Adapting to

new lands

as they sprout

from seeds

Complimenting the land they

find themselves among

Embracing

The heat

The cold

The moisture

The drought

Whatever is given to them

they take

The hallmark of

a landscape

Beautifully passive

at first

glance

Yet secretly

the engines

Of life.

  • My Only Hope

There might be nothing I hope for more than the ability to hold balance in life. Monetary balance, career balance, and personal balance.
