A Relationship Like Dark Chocolate

Our friendship was much like the first time you give a young child a piece of dark Chocolate. They taste it for the first time while telling themselves "This is chocolate. It should be sweet" but then recoil at the sudden bitterness of it. But maybe that was just that bite? Maybe if they try it again it will be sweeter. Maybe. But it doesn't. But the child keeps trying it over and over again, determined to enjoy what should be enjoyable. Because it should be, right?
