Things I wish people said to me

Rise like the sun
When they have driven you back and forced you to your knees
Rise like the sun
For the sun always rises no matter the march of night and it has to rise
So you have no choice but to rise like the sun
Or
If you are melancholy
Wax like the moon
If you are feet on stone floors and marble statues and barren tree limbs
Wax like the moon
You shall not falter or wobble or hurry or spill
And eyes are not on you like they are on the sun
You need not be the light in the dark of the thicket
But the shadows that are reassuringly there
If rising like the sun will melt your icy heart
I will watch you as you wax like the moon

It was just a fluke that I happened to see

The ghost of a girl in 1893

I didn't think much of her, tried to ignore

But then she came 'round in 1894

A spirit was not something that I had wanted

Did you know that, when you wrote me, I was made of papercuts

That I was ink and glue and wax but mostly, I was papercuts

Did you know that, when you read me, I am made of memories
