Water

I close my eyes and Jump
I shouldn’t have closed my eyes
This was a bad idea

I hit the surface with a splash
The water absorbs me
I sink

I swim through the current to the surface
Staring back up at the cliff, I see my dad
That wasn’t so scary

Get out
I need to get out
Swim

I sprint through the water towards the beach
Something grabs my leg
I push it back and swim faster

There was nothing there
I get on the beach and look back
The clear water holds nothing but the next person to jump

Did I forget again or did I know?
Did I know I would be afraid or did I not care?
Should I jump again?

I jump again
My fears didn’t hold me back
“For the first time, I was beginning to understand what life is all about.”
