Melting Ice Cream

I just want to go back
to that picture perfect moment
a snapshot in my memory

My friends were standing beside me
they were not far away
I could reach out my arms
and embrace them

We were smiling so wide
as we walked toward
the ice cream store
but there was a sign
saying it was closed

But we were not downhearted
we formed another plan
and we walked to the local grocery store

At the grocery store
we each grabbed a tub of ice cream
and it was less expensive
than the stuff we would have gotten
if the ice cream store had not been closed

We each payed our ice cream
and attracted a couple weird looks
we were four eighth grade girls
buying ice cream 

It was the middle of the day
and we were not in school
because we were all homeschoolers
and we play by different rules
so of course a couple were confused

And on our way back
we stopped to take a picture
to commemorate the day
with a fountain shaped
like a boy holding a boot

We were laughing and walking quickly
so our ice cream wouldn't melt
and it was just so perfect
I wish I could have paused time

That's when and where I want to go
back to that amazing day
before I had to leave my three best friends

It was just so perfect and so peaceful
and we were blissfully ignorant
of what lay in the near future

No worries
no virus
just us 
and our laughter
and our melting ice cream
