memories

the refracted light
bouncing around the room
whimsical
and bright
aboard our ship of roof shingles and sunshine
as we sail across a sea of smiles
and the scent of blueberry muffins
laughing as the waves of friendship and something else
chase after our toes
we run across sands of green grass
far from the ocean, yet drowning in joy
we dance in the reflections of the stars on the car window
and the taste of caramel
all the memories of past times just like this
melted together like the two ice cream flavors in my dish
sprinkled with mischievous grins
the sea glass whale on the window sill
catching the small amount light from outside
and shining it onto my small smile
recalling the things that made me so happy
as the cold raindrops splatter against my windowpane
and i wrap my fingers around the cold glass of my treasure
wishing i could still share all the joy it brought me.

  • The Boxes In The Corner

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

  • Paper Frogs

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
