Couplets of Cliches

Once upon a time there was a fight,

Happening on a dark and stormy night.

With endless clashing of arguing swords

Because actions speak much louder than words.

There must be a winner and loser in time,

For the grass is always greener on the other side.

A fight to ensure for the honoree

That the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Keeping bloodlines close so as not to discover

That you can't judge a book by its cover.

Reinforcing the need and desire to conquer,

For what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

They say all in good time

Yet believe love is blind.

Leaving you often remiss,

No longer believing that ignorance is bliss.

Leaving you often desperately questioning

Why the silence is so deafening.

The latest lost in the family line,

Making a chill run down the spine.

Visions of worry now filling the head;

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

A future you cannot possibly outrun.

Oh, how time flies when you’re having fun.

You never know when you may strike luck,

Finding a diamond in the rough.

It is always said, and always exact:

A reminder that opposites often attract.

For truths like this we are often pining.

Remember: every cloud has a silver lining.

You may be likely to receive the jilt,

Yet do not cry over spilt milk.

For while the heart must quickly warm,

It’s only the calm before the storm.

Carrying out an elaborate charade

So when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.

After a push and a quick little shove

You may find yourself head over heels in love.

Could it have happened any faster?

And they all lived happily ever after.

  • Embarrassment Beyond Recovery

The inciting incidents collect like fat droplets of rain water.

They matter more than the opinion of your most trusted imaginary friend.

    The sounds of the memories are on reverb, audio turned up high;
  • Doubt

    Distrust can be scary when
    it takes you by surprise
and you don’t know it’s there.

    It doesn’t matter how long
I’ve known you, or how stable
    you’ve been in the past.

    One false move and
    the damage is done,
