A New Beginning?

Here I am,
across the world
a million miles from home
I'd thought for sure
I could leave behind
The shame from which I come

It sticks to me
with a cloying scent
like blood against the skin
with all my force
flesh scraped away
rubbed raw of all its sins

First thing I see
just open my eyes
is my country up in flames
But hasn't it burned
for hundreds of years
The curtains just now raised?

This isn't new
nor just begun
The war was never won
we hobble on
a drunkards path
our story's come undone

  • Restless Energy

    I have this restless energy
That leaves me in total disarray
I’m not sure what to do with her
    What exactly could I say?

I’m not sure how I know she’s here
But it’s a feeling that builds up inside
  • Of the Chronic Sort

    Look, I understand
    you’re just trying to relate
    Pain makes you uncomfortable
    It’s a very human trait

    I am not in favor
Of the pain my body makes
And I will not be offended
If there’s not a part of you that aches
