Century

I can't know what it will be like in a century from now,

On June ninth in 2120, I won't be here anymore,

And neither will any of the people I ever cared about, except for a few lucky younger ones.

Will June still be a month to celebrate who we are?

Will anyone remember my name and that  the day I was born falls in this cheery month?

Will kids my age be able to lie in bed at night and rest assured that not everything political that's happening in the world at that moment needs to be contemplated,

Needs to be worried about? I would give anything for that.

Will there be even more worry,

Even more pressure,

On the world, so we are slowly cracking from it,

Will my grandchildren know what it was like now?

How I worry about what my mother will see on Twitter next,

And if I need to post a black square on my Instagram account to be an honorable person,

And if there is something more that I could be doing,

And if I am truly a good human being.

I wish we all could be.
