My First BestsellerCleaning my trash, I ran across my old tales, which I haven’t seen for ages.
This “spark of genius”of a seven year old was a love story triangle with absolutely no way out! Rafalk and Kingsport, desperately in love with Lily, too beautiful to handle.Trying to draw her attention they almost have eaten themselves out of their house and home. Lily head over toes with Dunkin, a stiff as a thumb hero. (By the way, the characters were humanized cats.)
(Now, should I go back to the drawing board to review my early attempts to write a bestseller?.) One can't judge a book by it's cover, after all, so many novels use the same basic plot. Where there is a will there is a way!
From the start I got the taste of my own medicine: to keep the story going I used the, "love at first sight"cliché. My story structure was this:
1. Down to earth hero from a farm.
2. Beautiful girl from rich family,
3. Two comical bad guys.
4. Hero meets the girl. Both fall in love.
5. Comical bad guys try to ruin their relationships.
6. Poof! Bad guys vanquished, the perfect couple lives happily ever after.
Ironically, I thought, many early teen novels are based on this. Anyway I shouldn’t be so critical.
