The Ghost String

Inspired by the ghost string in the doorway into the living room of my house.

A mysterious sound, like a rhythmic scratching, is coming from the walls inside the living room of the house. What is it? Something normal, like a branch hitting the side of the house or the sound of an animal scratching its ear, or was it something else? My mind tells me it was probably just a tree branch hitting the side of the house, but there it is again, and it’s not even windy outside. I think to myself, “A little creepy but probably nothing out of the ordinary,” but was that it again? I hear the sound again and again––faster than it was before. My brain is trying to tell me that the sound is something explainable. Even though my brain is screaming, “Don’t follow the sound!”, I decide to go downstairs to check it out. Oddly enough, the sound has stopped. I walk through the door and into the living room. I get the feeling that something or someone is here. What is that thing that I see from the corner of my eye? I look back, but it’s gone. But then I wonder, What did I see? I go through the door again, and sure enough, I see something. It appears as some kind of string––a string that doesn’t exist, but one that only I can see.  It isIt’s is a translucent web. Weird, I think. And then I see something hanging from the string. A massive 6-foot tall translucent cellar spider, tapping its feet on the wooden floor and looking very angry, looking like it wants to eat me.
