Empty Words

Sitting
looking
at instructions
that I don't know
how to follow
Itching to start
but not understanding
what I'm doing
Lifting my pencil
and writing
vomiting
meaningless
words onto the page
I don't know
how I'm doing it
I'm just going
through the motions
just getting through it
alive
I just write what I know
that the teachers want to see
not really
understanding 
what I write 
just using keywords
freedom
journey
faith
love
things teachers
eat right up
Things that'll get me
a good grade
And when I get it back
it's covered in notes

they just tell us
and we do exactly
what they say
