making a film: it's been a while!

pictured above: more costume shopping, some at-home papier-machéing, and cutting my own wig bangs. not pictured: costume tryons and an emergency recast.

so it's been a while since i offered any updates on the production process for my movie, hazel's house. first i was in a play that sapped all of my time and energy, then i was exhausted from having been in the play and then i sort of forgot i was doing it during the week of thanksgiving break. but i've returned now with many updates, including that we're ready to start filming!
or, very nearly. today i met with the actress playing one of the leads and had her try on the costumes--which fit surprisingly well considering that i bought them at the thrift store without her there--and talk about the details. i've created a schedule sheet so i can get an idea of everyone's availability in order to create a shooting schedule that will use time efficiently. i even went out and bought another section of the costumes--a bathrobe for nina the urban witch and clothes for gideon.
however, a wrinkle: the actor i had lined up to play gideon--the lead role--is no onger going to be able to do it. this isn't much of a surprise as we had barely met with him, but it is a big of a hitch in my plan to start production as soon as possible. i've decided that, since i know far more teenage girls, i can genderswap the character from gideon to gillian, and on monday i plan to begin the search for someone i know who would be comfortable playing the role and who i feel comfortable working and communicating with. and who is able to learn their lines very quickly since i want to have at least a portion of the shooting done by christmas break.
in the meantime, i have cut the criminally overlong bangs to my ghost wig in my own bathroom (a word to the wise: do not do this and if you do, be very careful or have someone else do it because wigs are made of plastic so standard haircutting strategies will do you no good and unlike real hair, wig hair will not grow back.) i also papier-machéd over the styrofoam grave i bought at the dollar store to make the words illegible so it can function as the molletts' grave and i do plan to paint it grey one of these days. i really do. whether that'll happen is another question altogether, though.
anyways--things are moving along, albeit not in a linear fashion. hopefully i'll be able to report soon that we've begun filming.
