Three words

You think it would be simple right?
I mean, all you have to say are three words
But no matter how many times I try
I never seem to be able to say those words to your face
Your so distracting
With your large innocent eyes
That hold secrets I'm sure are a lot less innocent
And your messy hair
that frames your face in perfect waves
The way you look up when someone says your name
Like your not really sure it's your name they said
Three little words
That could turn our friendship into something much more
Or destroy the bridge I have to the only person I trust
The fact that I trust you scares me
Your so perfect and beautiful
And I want to love you as thoroughly as my body will allow
But I can only love you if you let me
And if you let me love you
I have to tell you
I have to say those three words.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
