The Ocean's Call

I close my eyes
and hear the rushing sound of the ocean calling me
the tide yearning for my skinny frame to come
come and dive into it
and swim farther and farther
until the shores of my troubles are but a mere speck
but I am many miles away
in a small room, illuminated by the soft glow of my computer screen
but even here in this distant place
I can still hear the gulls screaching
the waves lapping
the world breathing in and out with the tide
I can still hear the sounds of my watery world calling me
calling me to come home.

  • The Boxes In The Corner

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
