“You're never going to guess what happened this morning!” I said heavily through a sigh to my classmate. He looked at me inquisitively.
“Well,” I began “when I woke up I was absolutely famished! So naturally I layed in bed until I could no longer stand the hunger. And then I got up and pulled on my robe and stepped into my slippers. I then padded down the stairs thinking about the bowl of Cheerios I was about to have. But, when I rounded the bend into the kitchen I froze in my tracks, because standing in the middle was a large red rooster.”
“A rooster?” he interrupted.
“Yes a rooster” I sighed “Now, that’s not all, let me finnish. Where was I? Ah yes red rooster in my kitchen. He was just standing there looking in the other direction so I was thinking I could grab him from behind. But as I neared he snapped his head hard to his left to look me directly in the eyes. For some reason I froze cold with fear as he beady brown eyes trained on me.”
“A chicken scared you?” he laughed.
“ He was a rooster” I corrected “and you would have been scared too the way he was looking at me. He we looking at me like I had just murdered his mother! Stop interrupting! Okay I held his gaze for a while because I wasn't sure what would happen if I looked away. But eventually I could no longer look into those horrible eyes. As I looked away he crowed and charged. All 10 lbs of his running at me. At first I didn’t know what to do but, in a split second decision I jumped out of the way and grabbed a dish towel. He still charged and I waved the towel at him. I never thought I would be bull fighting a rooster in my kitchen at 6:30 am. Eventually I threw the towel at him and snatched him up running to the door. I threw him outside and went to get dressed. When I came back he was standing outside the door clucking angrily. When I left for school I had to run to the car so he wouldn’t attack me.”
I stopped talking and my friend looked at me with wide eyes and then started to laugh hysterically. And so did I because as scary as it was waking up to a rooster in your kitchen is pretty funny thing. “ Hey, do you think he is still waiting for you?” my friend asked.
“I hope not.”
