Jealousy

Jealousy

Jealousy is an infectious disease

invading, then replicating

within my self assurance,

taking me down from the inside

Jealousy is a murderer

of the freedom inside me

slitting my sense of security with a stealthy slice

then watching, ecstatic

as my confidence bleeds out

Jealousy, the moody artist

dances around me in dizzying circles,

then sketches a portrait of what I don’t have

because yes, she does have to draw me a picture

lest I forget what could be

if only I were good enough

Jealousy is a covert dealer

trading in the cruelest currency

I’d protest but

I’m exhausted from

working against

Myself:

Now a clueless tool she uses

To seed herself in others
