fire

the flames flicker
among
the scattered
embers.
the heat burns
when it touches
my skin
from inside
the fire pit
the shadows dance
their firey figures
cascading off of the
hearth
the Embers crumble
slowly dispersing
into burnt ashes
the fire burns

This is quite vivid! I love the simplicity in this - though just as well you should remember this and go back to this piece if you ever write a fuller poem or story involving fire. I sense a "godly" or perhaps phoenix-like idea here, when you describe your narrator as rising up within this fire (unless I've misinterpreted). It's a striking mental image.

thank you for the compliment! I just wanted to tell you that you must have mistaken what I wrote for someone else's, because I never wrote anything about the narrator rising up from within the fire.
