Fear

Thump
Thump
Thump
The sound of heavy footsteps on the creaky stairs.
Coming closer by the second
Never stopping their endless march.

Or maybe that’s just my heart.

Smoke drifts in from a crack in my door
From an unlit cigarette.
A deep wooden smell fills the air.

Or maybe that’s just the remains of a cozy fire

A deep voice humming softly to itself.
Singing melodies that caused shivers to run up my spine.

Or maybe that’s just the wind.

CRACK!!!

I dive under my blanket.
Shivering with fright.
Light fills my room
Cold light like the light in a demon’s eyes.
The demon who is approaching.

Or maybe that’s just lightning.

My door creaks open
The smoke filters through as thickly as ever.
The melody gets louder
An incessant noise droning on and on.
The light grows brighter
Colder
Harder
Slowly the heavy footsteps stop
As if they had reached the end of a long journey.
I gather up all my courage
I peek out
Slowly
Cautionsly
In the middle of the light
In the center of the room
A figure stands
Incased all in black
 “Little girl”
A rumbling voice like a thousand volcanos
 “Do not close your eyes.
Do not cover your head.
I am your worst nightmare
I am fear.

Thump
My heart

Smoke
My fire

A song
The wind

Crack
A lightning storm

I close my eyes and drift into sleep.
