As We Fall

Wind rushing past,
Fast enough to steal the breath from your lungs.
Memories,
Thoughts,
Replaying at high speed.

The fall of a person,
The fall of a nation,
Tumbling

down,
down,
Into the ashes,
Remants of the time before,
The time before the fall.

As we fall,
I wonder,
How have we done this,
To ourselves?

As anger and hate collide,
I ask,
Why must we throw words at each other,
Like they are bullets,
Torpedos,
Bombs,
Grenades?

As morals sink,
Hopes dim,
I question,
How can we fix this?
This mess we have made?

But then,
As we fall,
Some rise,
And I begin to hope.

As we fall,
Will we rise?
