Roses and Summer Dreams's picture

a life lived in trash

A plastic bag dangles from a tree like an accessory.
A necklace-unwanted and unappealing.
Yet it is still there

Everywhere I look there
are used paper plates, plastic bottles and
Various rejected items

 They swarm at my ankles,
And take a scratch at the earth
carelessly
Killing it for all it’s worth

and yet it is still here.

Burning fuels, gases
Highways full of innocent minds, unexplored
And we never realize

Make believe, is it really?
Or just refused, maybe neglected?
And we all contribute, no excuses

They fog up my heart,
And take a scratch at the earth
furiously
Killing it for all it’s worth

and yet, somehow we are still here.
