If I Could

If I could,

Be myself,

In this unforgiving world.

Because I should,

Feel warmth of self,

Instead of cold judgment sold.

If I could,

Speak my mind,

With no fear of retribution.

Because I would,

Let nothing bind,

Me to a mold of regulation.

If I could,

Cry my fears away,

So that I’m not,

Hiding in my hood.

So they don’t say,

I’m weaker than they thought.

If I could,

Feel like I’m unique,

Instead of another clone.

I want to have stood,

Apart from the bleak,

Sameness that makes me alone.

If I could,

Be seen as equal,

As normal, As beautiful, As loving.

I would be good,

With a sequel,

Where everyone was hugging.

If I could,

Be myself

Speak my mind,

cry my fears away.

Feel like I’m unique,

Be seen as equal

I WOULD BE HAPPY.
