It hits me
like a wave
knocking me over
pulling me under
dragging me down
into the deep
where I will drown
I sink
below the water
where it is cold
and evil things lurk
in the darkness
and fear pierces
my beating heart
I struggle
but it is vain
I cannot swim
I cannot win
all hope is lost
my light goes dim
I close my eyes
and accept my fate
I've gone too far
it is too late
No one can reach me
and no one cares
But suddenly
I am pulled up
out of the water
into the light
the darkness dissolves
and all is bright
and I am wrapped
in the arms of friends
holding me up
above the waves
They do not know
that they
have rescued me
they do not know
of the stormy sea
but with an embrace
and sympathetic face
they have lifted
my spirit
out of the ocean
of sadness
