Mar 04

I stare
at the clock
on the wall
as the hands
move slowly around
for the gong to sound
sending us to
our last class of the day
I move
through the halls
with determination
and anticipation
for my favorite class
I open the door
and step in
and see the piano
in the middle of the floor
with the chairs
in an arc around it
I grab my music
and take my seat
ready to sing
My fellow singers
file in
until the seats
are full
The director
sits on his stool
and surveys us
and then
for us to rise
and we do
We open our mouths
and work our voices
until they are ready
to rehearse
and then
we sing
lifting our voices
in joy
the parts
blending together
until you can only hear
one song
one voice
one whole
and the joy
that comes from that
is what makes chorus
my favorite class
