Thoughts of an Empty School Building

I don't know where everyone went
or why they went away
I don't know when they're coming back
or if they've left me to decay

Last week the tension seemed to rise
full of uncertainty and distrust
and now everyone has gone away
leaving nothing but the dust

I miss the children filling me
spilling through the halls
I miss the bustle of excitment
contained within my walls

A school without people serves no purpose
and I hold a secret fear
that they will learn to learn without me
and abandon me empty here
