i miss

I miss

the way we smiled
seeing each other
every morning at school,

the inspiration, creativity
that came so naturally--
but
now it's become tiring--

the fire of autumn leaves
spreading across
the hills in fall,

the fawns that
stumbled across our lawn
in early, tip-toeing spring,

the peacefulness of mind
you get from
happy memories--
their spirits reaching out
every time you pass through
a certain room,
pick up that book,
find a dusty card discolored.

when these words fill
yellowed pages,
perhaps I'll reminisce.

Will i smile
caught for just a moment
or still stay stuck
on what i miss

The Pandemic has made me discover some things about myself.

One, is that I used to take school for granted. I used to complain about having to go to school. When right now I would do almost anything to be able to go back to school. See all my friends and teachers again. To learn with an entire class sitting around me. Even with all the challenges. I will never take school for granted again.

Two, is that I really can do anything if I put my mind to it. For instance a week ago I decided I wanted to do a split. So for the next seven days I stretched and stretched and stretched. Finally on day seven I did it! My first ever split. I felt so proud of myself. I am excited to continue learning new things.

5 things.

one,
syllables, letters
wind around my tongue
and get stuck in my throat
but through my fingers does my voice stand strong
spread across my paper
my words are my strength.

two,
the feel of paint
heavy on my brush
spreading vibrance everywhere it goes
color is my boldness.

three,
not fitting into the mold
and expectations
placed upon my shoulders
i am not anything, but at the same time i am everything
qualities of either end of the spectrum of genders
weave their way into my life
i am who i make myself.

four,
the silence used to be my friend
but when i learned of how amazing the sound of laughter was
it became an enemy
tossed aside for something better
but now. . .
i realize i need both
I've become very specific about who I spend my time with.

Five Things I Have Learned About Myself

1. I get bored easily. It's funny how when school was going on, I was complaining about not having enough time to do things that I want, and now that I do have the time, I am bored.
2. I always need to know what’s going on. Lately, I have been overwhelmed with everything going on and I want to know what the future is going to be like. But, it's hard for anyone to know exactly what the future holds and living with that uncertainty has been a challenge. I have learned to just be patient about it.
3. I have the ability to do great things. During this time away from school, I have been writing a lot more. Not having to worry as much about school has given me time to pursue my passions and I see myself producing work that I am proud of.
