poem 1 comment challenge: Raft
MargaretE.

All You Need is a Raft

I'm bored of this place where nobody leaves
so I sneak out in the night with a plan
I'll take a sheet, some logs, and rope
set out for the river with my cat in tow.

With my raft all secure and my sail erect
All that's left is to push away
I'm scared to leave but eager of the unknown
I jump aboard and off we go!

The river moves swiftly and the raft races on
I can't seem to steer so I give the river control
The banks with their trees seem dark and forbidding
I hug my cat tight as the river gets narrow

After a while I can see light in the distance
I'm weary of stangers and long for my bed
The firelight flickers the closer I get
I see people sitting down all in a row

They look up and smile as the light catches the sail
I shyly wave as I pass by their clearing
When a rope lands on board I can't help but catch it
They pull me in and tie the rope neatly in a bow

I never knew people outside of my home
We laughed and ate and I got warm all over
I proudly showed them my boat and they nodded with wisdom
Then they gave me a present for me too proudly show

As I land back at home and quietly climb in bed
I smile so large at the thought of what I've learned
There are people out there who are just like us
Where else can I go and what else can I know?
And I long for the night when I sail once again

This is pretty much everyone's dream.

    "Meet me
    where the end begins,
    in echoes,
    where your world is me,
    and my world is yours."
