poem challenge: CJP-COVID19

The elastic rubbing your ear
giving you red lines.
Your chin itching,
forcing you to lift the mask up.
After you sneeze,
the inside of your mask stinks,
making it hard to keep on.

But keep it on.

If you don't want to wear a mask,
stay home.
You don't have to say yes
when your parent asks
you to come on a walk.

But don't let the fear of COVID-19 overcome
your happiness.

You can go in your yard,
and pretend nobody else exists.
There's nothing that can harm you when
you're safe in you're own place.
You can do art in the unfinished basement.
You can just go cry in your room,
or read a book
with nobody bothering you.

But just know that you are helping just by staying home.
