Where Is The Rain?

The sun beats down
and burns the ground

It turns the dirt to dust
which blows away
in a hot dry wind
that carries not relief

Where is the rain?

I love the way it falls
the way the clouds
hide the sun

I love the pitter patter
upon my roof at night

I love the sound
of the thunder
and the lightning's flash

I love the coolness
of the drops on my face

I lift my face to the sun
and it blinds me
and I shout up at it

Where is the rain?

I want to dance in the rain
I want to twirl and splash
I want to watch it fall
outside my window

I want the lightning
and the thunder
to break the sky in two

I want relief from the sun
I want the rain
