Open Your Eyes

America the beautiful!
America the free!
America is amazing
from sea to shining sea!

Do you really believe
the words you sing?

Do you really think America
is such wonderful thing?

We sometimes want to ignore
the problems lurking in the dark,
but sometimes they are brought to light
by the tiniest of sparks.

If you think our country is perfect,
I'm sorry, but you are wrong,
there is still much hate and violence
and the bias is still strong.

You need to wake up,
you need to open up your eyes,
you need to see reality,
you may be suprised.

I don't think you will like
what you see,
you'll realize you've been
living in a fantasy.

So wake up, America,
open your eyes,
see yourself as you truely are,
I think you'll be suprised.

Yes, you have freedom
and yeah, you're pretty great,
but you still aren't perfect,
you're still a country full of hate.

Don't give yourself to much credit,
there's still room to improve
because nobody is perfect,
though some may dissaprove.

I'm not saying don't be patriotic
I'm not telling you to show disrespect
I'm just saying that you should look around
because America aint' perfect

Look around
you may be suprised
at what you see
if you open your eyes

This read to me almost like a chant or a song, cool!

    "Meet me
    where the end begins,
    in echoes,
    where your world is me,
    and my world is yours."

I actually was singing the words as I wrote it. That's kinda my technique for writing poetry: sing it and then write it without the music.

Despite the important message, you still made it interesting to read, with a good rhythm. :) It is really refreshing to hear a call to action that also reminds us that
disrespect is never the answer, especially when it’s part of the problem we are trying to solve. We should all remember America is as beautiful, and as broken, as we make her.

Dear Lord, please put your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.
