I didn’t know the moon could be orange
Not the color of a pumpkin, not quite
Almost a pumpkin pie, but translucent
With silver shining through

It wasn’t full
But made even more beautiful
By the imperfection

It was framed by the clouds
Arcing a neat crescent
Careful to leave the moon alone

The sky was speckled with stars
Almost like freckles
Mirrored by the lights of the town below

Orange has never been a color I like
But I like it on the moon
