Butterflies

Sunset

Thistle down
and lavender
soft
wind like
dragonfly wings softly
kissing my face

The shy butterfly sunlight
so timid
in the morning
now boldly touching everything
one last time
ribboning its golden tendrils
through my already
redgoldautumnpink hair
turning me
just for a moment
into one of its
fire dipped butterflies

Twilight

Sky is painted now
in shades of
creamy avacado insides
carribean blue nail polish

Skeleton trees no longer casting shadows
they are the shadows
stars one by
one
blipping into existence
natural christmas lights
arranged in
intimate patterns
for artists to re-create

Bedtime

In my room
fingering the seaglass ornanment
hanging from the ceiling and
causing me to
remember
rocky beaches
watching the sailboats go
in and out
ocean front towns
remembering
white painted houses
covered walking bridges
dripping with flowers
leading from parking lots
over old canals
to hidden ice cream shops
Wells
Bar Harbor
Camden
My saltwater homes

Into the bathroom
wipe off my daytime face
darkness smearing around
before dissapearing
assume my second face
the one I wear
for only the photos on my walls
to see

Back to my room
push the window
wide open
my hair still
always
holding glittering traces
of the sunset
Un-cup my hands
look at the butterfly I'm holding
pulsating with golden light
woven
from the threads
of the sunset
watch as it flits away

Whisper good night
close the window
