teenage forgetfulness

my toenail polish is chipping
and so are my memories
I dont remember a time I was free
or a time when I didn't have to tell myself
that tomorrow would be better
I see 4th of july fireworks
when I remeber that you
still exist
and that the sun will crash into the earth
someday

This might be one of my favorite poems. I have the page that this was published in hanging up on the wall of my room (please don't think I'm a weird stalker, something of mines is also published on that same page) and I love reading it over and over again. The part that sticks out to me is the part when you say, "my toenail polish is chipping, and so are my memories". I really love the comparison, it's easy for me to imagine since I have experienced chipping toenail polish. What really moved me was " I see 4th of July fireworks, when I remember that you, still exist". I thought it was interesting how you associate fireworks with a person. Without directly saying it, it indicates that you feel deeply for that person. Lines 3-5 made me wonder the challenges that you are facing. This poem is a tiny bit dark and depressing, but you didn't really say what was happening which got me imagining possibilities, although it would be cool to know what you had in mind when you wrote this. Keep up the great work!

Wow! I'm so honored to be on your wall:) It makes me so happy that you were able to see some of the less obvious things I allude to. This poem came out of nowhere honestly, so I cant explain it all that well, but it came from a really deep longing of the emptiness of summer if that makes any sense? Anyway, it made me so happy to read your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed it:)
