I could have sworn you had hated
Every one of their faces

Fires and lyres and harpsichord
All the matches you lit
Just becasuse you were bored
When you got your face plastered all the way around town
Your name scorched into ash
That ash deep underground
They forgot how you screamed and you cursed at the sky
Were the bugs in their bonnets
The dust in your eye
They forgot all the hearts and the secrets you hewn 
How you grew back your throns
No matter how hard they'd prune

But

They gild you now
Sitting neat in fine rows
Dripping wax on their toes
With that watery prose

And the muses
