a betrayal, soap, and a plane ticket

i had faith in what was to come
he whispered soft promises in my ear
of love and happiness
if he loved me half as much as he said he did
would i be here
trying to wash his touch away with soap
that smells like him and cool watermelon on a summers evening?
if he loved me half as much as he said he did
would i be buying a plane ticket to take me halfway across the world?
i feel like an imposter running from my life of broken promises, broken promises that will never be put back together
i just can't stay
i can't
i can't
i won't
i can't be the one to sew all the pieces back together
with the smell of cool watermelon
i watch all the broken promises grow smaller and smaller through the window
will i ever come back to face them?
will we ever know?
i had faith in what was to come
but all there was to come was the inevitable
a betrayal, soap, and a plane ticket
