poem challenge: Summer

Summer

By Oona Osborne

Waking up to the smell of pancakes

And the fresh taste of strawberry smoothies

Then as we splash in the river Blue sky above

The day couldn't get any better

Could it

As night falls the moon

Shines through the towering trees

Ice Cream sundaes for dinner

The tiny lights along the edge of the cabin

Framed our faces in pale yellow light

The dogs race around in the woods

Weaving in between trees

Jumping in and out of the river

Slowly we migrate back up to the cabin

The peeling red paint looks brown in the dark

Everyone makes their way to the porch

As the bats fly into the endless night sky
