When I run

Leaning forward,
braced against the wind,
the rain,
the snow,
I run.
I try to run with grace,
but sometimes I run with pain.
Running is a love-hate relationship.
Sometimes I feel like I could run forever,
light and airy,
leaping with ease.
Sometimes I think I could fall over in pain,
heavy, and clunky,
pain stabbing my side.
Sometimes I run to run,
sometimes I feel guilty about lack of exercise,
sometimes I just need to get away,
from the chaos,
from the sluggish laziness the couch provides me.
When I run, when I feel fresh and new,
my legs surging easily,
I have the I-could-run-to-the-end-of-the-world-and-back feeling of inspiration.
The wind doesn't slap my face,
it reenergizes it,
All pain slips away with my heavy breaths,
I feel like the happiest person in the world.
But I might think differently tomorrow.
When I run.
