observations from the back of the class

that smile isn't real
and isn't it terrible
when students tell
their classmates
such awful things
and they laugh it off
as if they are not
bothered that they
were just told they
try too hard, or that
they are stupid, or
ugly, or too tall, or
that they really should
just die, and i know
that she laughs like
its nothing but i used
to be the one she
would talk to and i
know it affects her
and i can't tell her
that i'm here for her
and that it has not
only happened to
her it has happened
to me and i've seen
it happen to every
student in my school
and i don't know who
needs to hear this but
i just have to say that
it really doesn't matter
if they laugh it off
because they are going
to cry about it later and
it doesn't matter if you
never see it because
that doesn't mean that
it never happened
